Maybe the biggest business social media competition ever was launched today across 43 major U.S. cities. Sponsored by the Biz Journal chain of daily online business news, this unique local and national competition has attracted more than 4000 companies in the U.S. who have signed up for the challenge.

Called “Social Madness,” it’s a one-of-a-kind corporate media challenge that measures the growth of a company's social presence. The quantitative competition is based on three of the most popular Web 2.0 platforms — Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter. Between the three, in 2011 they reached about 220 Million visitors every month.
